Our Hypothesis

The Business-System as Engineering Object

The Business-Systems Engineering Initiative is an independent programme of research established to investigate, organise and develop Business-Systems Engineering as a discipline.

The Initiative provides a structured body of knowledge through which Business-Systems may be described, analysed, researched, evaluated and progressively aligned.

Our Core Investigation

Describing The Business-System

A Business-System is the organised structure through which an organisation, or a recognisable part of an organisation, creates, governs, delivers and adapts business value.

It comprises interacting participants, information, decisions, actions, states, policies, resources and external relationships whose collective behaviour emerges from their interactions rather than from any individual component in isolation.

This meaning differs from the general English phrase business system, which simply refers to any system or application used within a business.

Within the Business-Systems Engineering Initiative, Business-System is treated as the primary object of engineering investigation.
